PD Dr. Rajendra S. Ghadwal

Principal Investigator and Group Leader

Raj(endra) Ghadwal was born and raised in a small village near Jaipur in India, where he completed his early education. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Rajasthan University in Jaipur, India, where he also completed his master’s and doctoral theses. His academic journey led him to Germany, in 2008, where he joined the research group of Prof. Herbert W. Roesky at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen as a postdoctoral researcher. This experience marked the beginning of his international research career.

In Göttingen, Raj’s scientific career flourished, and he started his independent academic path as a „Habilitand“ at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. In 2016, under the mentorship of Prof. Dietmar Stalke, Raj obtained his Habilitation, a key milestone that allowed him to pursue further academic excellence.

In 2015, he relocated to Bielefeld. In 2017, he achieved a second (Um-)Habilitation at the Universität Bielefeld (Mentor: Prof. Nobert W. Mitzel), solidifying his position as an expert in his field. That same year, Raj joined the Universität Bielefeld as a faculty member, where he has since led a research group focusing on „Molecular Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis.“

Raj was honored with a position as a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), hosted by Prof. Kit Cummins. This was made possible by the prestigious Fedor-Lynen Program for experienced researchers of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

In recognition of his exceptional research and teaching contributions, Raj was included in the Heisenberg Program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in 2021. This program further affirmed his standing as a leading researcher in the field of chemistry.
